How to use the ABMP website builder
The ABMP website builder is a part of your ABMP membership. It is a good place to start playing with websites and learning about creating them. The first thing you need to think about and research when you are creating any website is what keywords people will be using to search for you right before they find your website. It is usually some combination of ‘Massage, your city”. You can actually research the keywords that people are using to find out how many are searching for your massage services in your area so that you can get the right combination. (more…)
What do you desire in a Job?
The first step on your way to finding or creating your dream massage job is to take a good look at you self and your desires. It is desire that will fuel your actions that you take in finding or not finding a job in massage. Having a desire – a burning desire – will spur you on when you are faced with challenges in your search for a job in massage. So often people will just be happy with taking the first job that comes along or any job. If you take the time to do your research and (more…)
Climbing out of the money fog
For some reason money seems to be a big issue for many massage therapists. Many come to the profession because they want to “help’ others. Helping others seems to become equated with you can’t make money for helping people. It is common to hear ” I am not in this for the money” or “I didn’t become a massage therapist for the money”. Whenever people say that I think of what Harv Eker says in his book “The Millionaire Mind” – You don’t have any money then, right? How does making money have so many different issues attached to it? For the last 8 years or (more…)
Gratitude- Giving Thanks
“…the more you become a connoisseur of gratitude, the less you are a victim of resentment, depression, and despair. Gratitude will act as an elixir that will gradually dissolve the hard shell of your ego—your need to possess and control—and transform you into a generous being. The sense of gratitude produces true spiritual alchemy, makes us magnanimous— large souled.” —Sam Keen Hunger for Appreciation
Gratitude -Giving thanks- being grateful is on my mind with the Thanksgiving Holiday just around the corner. How can giving thanks and being grateful help you build your massage business? How can you feel thankful when you are barely scraping by and are just trying to keep the doors of your massage business open? Yes when things are difficult it is difficult to be grateful and give thanks for what you do have. Dictionary.com defines Gratitude as :
- an appreciative attitude for what one has received
- a warm or deep appreciation of personal kindness
- a disposition to express gratefulness by giving thanks

Marketing for Male Massage Therapists
Marketing for male massage therapists is one of those interesting topics to be written by a female – me! But I have seen too many men shoot themselves in the foot. Men don’t want to get massaged by men. Women don’t want to get massaged by men. So who is left for men in the profession to massage? Well I actually think we need more men in the profession who are willing to take a risk in their marketing of massage. First off I have heard so many men ask “Do you want a (more…)
Supervision for Massage Therapists
Supervision is a fairly new concept in the massage profession but one that I feel will be the way for massage therapists to get the recognition and the clients that one needs to make a really great living while doing something that you love. If you aren’t familiar with supervision, it is quite simply just all about you. It isn’t someone telling you to do something or someone telling you are doing something wrong (or right even!) Supervision is the process of working with a more experienced massage therapist for the purpose of getting the support you (more…)
Creating Your Policies and Procedures
One of the biggest acts of self care is setting your policies and procedures and learning to enforce them in a way that supports your values. This is one of the hardest things for massage therapists to understand for some reason. Many massage therapists want to just be flexible and set their hours around clients schedules working Saturdays, Sundays, evenings and holidays. That might work if you don’t have a life or family/friends that you value spending time with. It may even get you a lot of clients but when you really take a look at those clients ask yourself (more…)
The Wealthy Massage Therapist
The idea of a wealthy massage therapist often seems contradictory to all that a massage therapist believes in and does. Massage therapists often become massage therapists not to become wealthy but to help others and to participate in a more meaningful career. The idea that a massage therapist can’t be wealthy needs to be changed. To do that requires that you start taking a deeper look at the things that created that belief. The best way to do that is to take a look at the feelings that come up when you just think about the title (more…)
On Becoming a Massage Therapist
On Becoming a Massage Therapist is the most appropriate way I could think of to start this site out! It is a play on the words used by Carl Rogers who wrote a book called “On Becoming a Person”. The path to becoming a massage therapist can also be a path of awakening to your own true self while engaging in the process of witnessing the healing of others. It is a path of becoming more authentic and arising to the challenges – big and small- along the way. Massage Therapy is a combination (more…)
