Metatags are one of the least used features on most massage websites that I have reviewed or taken a look at. While they are not the whole story to getting your website found, they do help.
Metatags are an invisible part of your website that the search engines look at in order to get an idea of what is on your site. Some even use exactly what you say in the small listing that shows up when people are searching and your site comes up. These will influence whether or not people will click on your site in the listings.
There are a few parts to the meta-tag: The description which is just that -describes what your site is about and the keywords tag. The keywords the words that people will use to search for your site.
You will have to find out how and where your website lists its metatag option and find out if they will even allow you to change them or have anything to do with them.
So each page will have a different metatag depending on what that page is about.
Your main page or home page is the most important because this is the page you want most people to land on. The metatags for your main page should read just simply something like this:
Description: Seattle Massage – Deep tissue massage in downtown Seattle
Keywords : Seattle Massage, downtown seattle massage, injury massage seattle, relaxation massage
The important part is that the Seattle Massage (or your city, massage) needs to be the first word in each part. It’s really simple once you get the hang of it all.
After that you also need to put those words in the title of your page and also use it a few times throughout the page – not too many times though. This is all part of search engine optimization or telling the search engines where you are!
So find where your metatags are and check to see what they currently say. You can find them by going to your website and clicking on the view tab in your browser and then click on page source (or sometimes it will say something a little different.) When the new page opens up you will be able to view your metatags. They are listed near the top of the page and will look something like this (from my clinic site.)
META Name="Description" Content="Downtown Seattle Massage Therapy for back, neck pain, sports massage, medical massage, deep tissue massage" META Name="Keywords" Content="downtown seattle massage, seattle massage therapy, seattle massage, massage 98101"
So take a look at yours and see if you can figure out where you go to change your words if they need to be changed.
SBI! -the website building system that I use and recommend will analyze each page you create and help you create the best metatags for your website.
