The Wealthy Massage Therapist
The idea of a wealthy massage therapist often seems contradictory to all that a massage therapist believes in and does. Massage therapists often become massage therapists not to become wealthy but to help others and to participate in a more meaningful career.
The idea that a massage therapist can’t be wealthy needs to be changed. To do that requires that you start taking a deeper look at the things that created that belief. The best way to do that is to take a look at the feelings that come up when you just think about the title of this post “The Wealthy Massage Therapist”. Many will start with “I don’t want to be wealthy. I am not doing this for the money” or some variation of that.
Money is one place that holds so many old projections and beliefs that are just not true. We often confuse money with value or being valued. Money really doesn’t have any value anymore. There isn’t any gold sitting in a bank that represents every dollar you have. Money is just money. It is just a simple math problem to become wealthy and have enough money to keep you in business for a very long time and have enough to take nice vacations and retire comfortably.
Becoming aware of your beliefs about money, value and how you value your time will be a big part of becoming a wealthy massage therapist. (Wealth is also how you define it. I define it as the number of days I can go without working!)

The ‘healing martyr’ belief afflicts many therapists, it seems that many see making money as sullying the ‘pure nature’ of their work. If you follow that sentiment to its logical conclusion, don’t charge a dime for your work. See how long you can go before you burn out. Secondly, you’ll find that people will tend to value your service less as you don’t value it yourself.
It’s true that money is no longer back by the Gold Standard, it is so called fiat money. It only has value in the eyes of the parties using it. Money should be considered a tool to facilitate your goals in life. Nothing more.
Great comment Matt! I second that!!
