Using Twittter to Get Massage Appointments

Social Media is one of the big tools for building a massage business.  Twitter is just one of those things that most people can’t really figure out how to fit it into their business and marketing plan.  How much of a message can you get across in 140 characters or however many they give you.

The only thing I could figure out is to have a twitter feed on the main page of my website (and on the other main pages that get the most traffic) and use it to announce your massage appointment openings for the day.  You can see it in action at my clinic website. It fact I just used it today and filled one of the openings I have.  I often will tweet at the beginning of the week and then because I fill up so fast will tweet each day and tell people when I am booked or have openings for the next week.  I also occasionally will tweet things like sign up for my newsletter or read this interesting article or page on my website. It works like a charm but the thing is that you have to have people visiting your website to find out about it.

The power behind any social media marketing though is having a website that has plenty of traffic and is found by the search engines for your main keywords – massage, your city.  When people find your website that way they already have more of a trusting sense than if they were finding you with an add.

Twitter is really also very easy to set up if you don’t already have an account.  Actually I use separate feeds for my massage business and for my website feeds.   Create an account using your main keywords -massage your city – or some form of those words that describe what you do.  While twitter feeds aren’t really being indexed by search engines it might help if someone is searching within twitter.  I actually did connect with a Naturopath near my office that ways.

You can get the code for the twitter badges or widgets by going to the link at the bottom of your profile or from any page called Goodies (direct link here.)  Then go to the section called Widgets and then click on Create Profile Widget.  You can choose the colors and size of the box you want to put on your website.  There are a few other settings too that you have control over.  When you are finished click Finish and Grab Code. Paste the code into the spot where you want it to show up on your website.

So the amazing thing in all of this is that you never know what will happen.  People will connect with people.  It becomes viral!

Not a bad idea! The more ways clients can schedule appointments, the better!

With this in mind, I’d like to recommend Schedulicity.com, which has a Facebook application that allows users to book through Facebook! The best part about this app, too, is that if you are using Schedulicity to manage all of your appointments, you don’t actually have to log on to Facebook (like you would Twitter) to check.

The user selects the service they want, then picks about an available time slot, and that’s it! Done. No need to cruise twitter or answer the phone all day. They can even schedule from their phones. Check it out:

Cheers, and good luck navigating this whole new “social media” thing! It can be a real boon to your business, especially against competitors who aren’t on board yet.

I second Evan’s recommendation of Schedulicity.com. I’ve been using their service for 3 months and have seen a tremendous increase in new client appointments. I estimate that I’ve gained back over 10 hours of free time/month that was devoted to phone tag or returning calls. Potential clients that normally would have gone to voicemail and/or moved on to calling another therapist are now booking online all by themselves. My clients LOVE and appreciate the convenience.

P.S. I like the Twitter feed on your website, Julie. I may give this a try.
